 DeKalb SWCD Supervisors' monthly board meetings are held at the USDA Service Center Conference Room on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm.  The meetings are open to the public.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

  

  

Arts Commission and DeKalb SWCD Present National Georgraphic Photojournalist Jim Richardson Exhibit

 

AUBURN – Auburn Arts Commission Inc. and DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District are partnering to present “Art in Agriculture: Conservation as Art” featuring National Geographic photojournalist Jim Richardson in August and September. DeKalb Health and Metal Technologies Inc. are sponsors of the event.

A gallery exhibit, opening Aug. 5 with a reception from 2-4 p.m. at DeKalb Health, will feature Richardson’s photographs taken around the world. Twenty framed photographs will illustrate the importance of soil and its conservation.  The exhibit will be open to the public through September 23 in the area of the hospital that formerly housed patient registration and adjacent corridors.

Richardson will present a program, “Soil: the Future beneath Our Feet” on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at GarrettHigh School.

The public may support this exhibit at several financial levels. A sponsor is an individual, business or company contributing at least $2,000. Donors may contribute at several levels: Harvester, $1,000 to $1,999; Grower, $500 to $999; Sprouter, $250 to $499; Planter, $100 to $249; and Planner, $1 to $99.

Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to the Auburn Arts Commission at P.O. Box 172, Auburn,IN 46706; or DeKalb County Community Foundation, 650 North St., Auburn, IN 46706 with DeKalb County SWCD and National Geographic project in the check’s memo line.

"Arts in Agriculture" Photo Contest Offered This Summer

In conjuction with National Georgraphic Photojournalist Jim Richardson's Exhibit, the Auburn Arts Commission and DeKalb SWCD are excited to present a photo contest to regional photographers. Mr. Richardson will judge all eligible entries in advance.  Winning photographs will be framed by the Arts Commission for display with the gallery exhibit.

The contest is open to photographers in DeKalb, Steuben, LaGrange, Noble, Allen, Williams, Defiance, or Paulding counties in three categories: persons 18 and younger, persons older than 18 who are amateur photographers, and persons older than 18 who are professional photographers. Winners will be announced at the Aug. 5 gallery opening. Complete contest rules will be available soon at the SWCD and all DeKalbCounty public libraries.
